The Big Latch On 2015

World Breast Feeding Week is being held August 1st-7th,2015.  The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action is celebrating 23 years of promoting breastfeeding and support for mothers.  This is a global effort to normalize and educate people about the benefits of breastfeeding.

To celebrate World Breast Feeding Week, The Big Latch On is hosting a global count again!  It is a community-building event that is aimed to bring women together, spread the word about local support groups and raise money to support various organizations.

The Big Latch On involves groups of breastfeeding women coming  together  at registered  locations around  the  world  to all  ‘latch  on’  (breastfeed) their child or children at a set time.  Numbers are added to a global count total to see if we can beat the previous years record.

History of The Big Latch On

The Big Latch On began in New Zealand and was started by Women’s Health Action in  2005  as  part  of  World  Breastfeeding  Week.  Joanne Edwards of Small Beginnings Group introduced the Big Latch On to Portland, Oregon in 2010. The Big Latch On Record is 14,536 children latched on simultaneously across 845 locations in 28 countries! The World record is still held by Children for Breastfeeding Inc., With 15,128 women breast feeding simultaneously at 295 sites across the Philippines on 2 May 2007.

Our event

Bay & Bee and Jax Beach Breastfeeding Support Group are hosting a Big Latch on Event at Bay & Bee on Saturday, August 1st.

You will need to register at Bay & Bee.  Registration will open at 9:15am and close at 10:00am. The latch on will take place at 10:30am. At that point we will count latches for 1 minute. Meredeth Rae Woodward will be here between 9:15-10:15 playing a set of her music.  Please bring a closed water bottle container and socks for yourself!

Although donations are not required to participate, we will be accepting donations for The Big Latch On organization to help provide Breast Feeding Support.

Motherhood Support Meeting- For All New Moms Adjusting to the New Role

Parenthood is just amazing, so perfect and fulfilling! Or so they say, until you have a baby yourself. Not that glamorous at times. Feelings of loneliness, uncertainty, fear, self doubt, anxiety might start rolling in every now and then. Or all the time. It's normal. In fact, it is estimated, that 40% of all new moms go through postpartum anxiety and around 10% postpartum depression. You are not alone!

Together with various pre and postnatal experts we would like to welcome pregnant and new moms, as well as mothers of young children who are finding the challenges of pregnancy and/or motherhood to be different than expected. Join us to create a supportive connection between other mothers. Babies and young children are welcome to attend.

Those monthly meetings are free to public, do not require membership. Just bring socks for yourself (we are a shoe-free facility).

If you know anyone who's struggling with postpartum feelings, please invite them to the meeting! It's an informal gathering, following our new moms playdate at 2pm.

Motherhood Support Meeting is led by Ida Brown at our Atlantic Blvd location-  a Northeast Florida native with a passion for supporting new mothers. Ida comes from a mental health background and has training through Postpartum Support International. As a mother of a toddler, Ida knows how the isolation and exhaustion of motherhood can dampen those magical moments that we all crave. With years of experience facilitating groups, Ida is excited to offer mothers a safe place to share the silly, the successful, and the serious or to simply connect with other moms.

Bartram Springs Bay & Bee has Hiroko Hsieh leading the meetings. Hiroko is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and mom to 2 young children and lives in Julington Creek area.

FAQ
Why can't we do a 1 day drop in or less than 10 days?

Bay & Bee is founded on the Montessori Method which relies on repeated actions. We believe when you make something routine (like coming to Bay & Bee) it enhances and encourages confidence and independence from the child. It also helps foster a community.

The value of our program is rooted in repetition, exploration, and engagement in the community.

We offer a quality program and in return ask for a little bit of commitment.
