During pregnancy, many women turn to Prenatal Yoga as a way to stay healthy and to help them prepare for the birth of their baby. During class, women work on strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and stability, while focusing on breath and relaxation. Prenatal Yoga is safe and gentle enough for women at all stages of pregnancy, whether they are newly pregnant or due any day. The class is designed to be effective for all levels of fitness, from the beginner to the advanced. As the body changes throughout a woman’s pregnancy, so will the poses and movements during their class. Modifications are shown during each Prenatal Yoga class to provide alternatives to each pose. Participants can adjust the class to meet their own needs, while working with their ever-changing body. Throughout the class, women listen to their body above all and work within their own limitations.
Prenatal Yoga gives women the time to block out all distractions and focus only on their body and on their baby. This quiet time helps women prepare not only physically, but also mentally for the sacred event of their baby’s birth. Women learn to focus on their deep, relaxing breath; a breathing technique that they can use during their labor and birth. Women also learn to fully relax the body and mind which can aid in a much easier and enjoyable childbirth.
By taking Prenatal Yoga with Michelle, women at all stages of pregnancy can safely work on strength, endurance, flexibility and balance while practicing breath, relaxation and practical birthing techniques.
Lastly, there is a constant reminder to the women that their body is very strong and very wise. Their body was made for this, and it knows what it is doing. We focus on releasing fears and anxieties surrounding pregnancy and birth, and we learn to embrace this journey as we find confidence within ourselves to birth our babies with courage and ultimately achieve the birth we desire.
for all Moms who are at least 2 weeks postpartum for vaginal birth and 6 weeks for cesarean birth. Nursing infants welcome, of course!
The work we do is very subtle and requires thought and concentration. This is hard to do when chasing toddlers, right?! Thus, I have had to limit the baby attendance to wee ones. Thanks for your understanding.
Diastasis Recti Recognition, Pelvic Floor Muscle Training, Postural Awareness.
This class, taught by Emily, is specifically for the postpartum mom and is appropriate for moms who have had vaginal or cesarean birth. The purpose of this class is to recover from pregnancy and your delivery. Join with other postpartum moms to GENTLY start the journey back to fitness. Feel energized with gentle range of motion movement patterns that relieve the stress and strain of childbirth.
The main focus is on RECOVERY: pelvic floor muscle training and perineal recovery, Diastasis recti (abs) recognition and recovery, cesarean and perineal scar massage techniques, gentle stretch and strength for the new mom, core restore, alignment and postural exercise for tired bodies and connecting with other moms who are in the same stage of Motherhood.
** This is NOT a Kick-Your-Butt Fitness class. It’s much too early for that!
Please do your Pelvic Floor a favor and let it heal before you start running again. Impact exercise before 6 weeks is generally too early for most postpartum women. However, this is your first step in the journey! The RE-ENTRY to your fit self is every bit or more important to the success of your postpartum phase of motherhood.
This is an excellent course for parents, grandparents, babysitters, older siblings (age 12+) and anyone else who lives with or works around children.
